When we first visited this project, both the Master Bathroom and Bedroom were dark, uninspired, and felt like a builder spec home. The client yearned for calming colors with a luxury hotel energy that could stand the test of time. We both agreed that the existing architecture and amazing height in the bathroom needed to be accentuated as you first walk in. We discussed wallpaper as an option, but ultimately landed on a stunning floor the ceiling marble mosaic tile that had just the right amount of glam and variation of color. We added a freestanding tub to the center of our “wow” moment, with air tub features and handheld spray for the ultimate relaxing tub experience. We added a hidden shelf behind the tub to store her salts and soaps, then flanked it with two tall linen cabinets that allowed for easy access to bath towels and a breathtaking view of the outside from every angle with inset antique mirrored doors. These calculated decisions, paired with the large chandelier and contrasting ceiling paint help bring your eye all the way up and provide a calming sense of balance that you feel as soon as you step foot into the room. When it came to the vanities and shower, we didn’t modify the layout very much, just upgraded the storage space, and finishes. We widened the entrance into the shower and added frameless shower glass, with a dramatic marble surround made of the countertop material. Instead of a niche we created a tall knee wall in the shower that extends the entire length to give plenty of storage space for two people and allows for accessibility to items from both shower heads. This horizontal shelf allowed us to create another tile feature; we transitioned from a brick laid, Carrara marble tile at the bottom to the same mosaic we used behind the tub, which then waterfalled onto the ceiling for a melting pot of three different marbles for one breathtaking moment. The two his and her vanities remained in their existing locations but were elongated and lightened to a grey washed oak with deep drawers and a hidden trash can for optimal hidden storage. We added furniture legs, pewter drop pulls, and dimmable lighting within the toe kick of the vanities to layer in some warmth. Then we bounced around even more light by insetting the vanity sconces within large mirrors and trimmed them with Carrara marble. To ensure the spaces remain fresh throughout the years, we intentionally blended warm and cool tones, and put an emphasis on mixing textures harmoniously. We took advantage of every square inch of this Master Suite to surpass our clients’ dreams and the end result was perfectly tranquil and forever timeless.
