Founder & Principal Designer

Chelsea Elisabeth Smith was raised by an aspiring artist from New Orleans, who encouraged her to regard her enthusiasm as her career. "I have a notepad of grid paper full of my childish renditions of floor plans I can recall producing since I could hold a pencil." With a lifetime of creative experience, a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Interior Design from Harrington College of Design in Chicago (2013) and a decade of professional Interior Design experience, Chelsea is an expert in Residential Interior Design, Kitchen & Bath Design, and Historical Preservation. Her comprehensive professional design services include existing home renovations or "interior refreshes", historical restorations, and new home construction conceived from blueprints.

Chelsea's emphasis on strong, transparent relationships, and an enjoyable design process is what keeps her clientele coming back year after year. She strives to challenge traditions and ensures every space is personally curated, always referencing the past, and mixing unanticipated styles harmoniously. "We believe that thoughtful, reflective design has the power to spawn a happier, healthier existence. Our formula is intended as therapy and has the potential to foster the life you never knew was possible!" Chelsea collaborates closely with her clients to ultimately reward them with a unique, purposeful, and cohesive dwelling.

The first design consultation is always complimentary and is an excellent way to gain a realistic idea of your project's needs, budget, and timeline.

Executive Design Assistant

Christopher Amburn grew up in St. Louis' West County area. “My grandfather and father both were in construction. As a child, I got to see my family create new homes for other people and it really inspired me.”

Chelsea and Christopher first crossed paths during his senior year at Lafayette High School during a presentation Chelsea was giving about interior design. After graduation in 2017, he pursued a Bachelors of Science in Housing & Interior Design from Missouri State University. They met pre-pandemic about an internship opportunity. Christopher started in July 2020 as a design assistant where he worked closely with Chelsea to assist with most every aspect of the design process. "Christopher is not only an absolute joy to be around, but he mirrors my organization level, which is difficult to do. I appreciate his passion to learn, attention to detail, and overall efficiency," says Chelsea.

Christopher graduated in May 2021 and returned to Chelsea Design Company full time after graduation. Christopher has been with the company since July of 2020.

Head of Fabrication

Sindy Obremski has been a master of her trade for half a century. As a young child, Sindy began by working on sewing projects with her mother and designing costumes for bands. She studied commercial arts at Florissant Valley Community College and Forest Park Community College in the early 1980’s and  refined her craft for over 40 years at a local custom upholstery and restoration company, where she worked for many prominent clients and had her work published and sent all over the country.

Chelsea and Sindy first met about 10 years ago, before Chelsea went out on her own. Sindy did small client projects for her, and their friendship quickly blossomed. As time went on, Chelsea and Sindy continued to stay in touch and worked periodically together with hopes to eventually team up exclusively. The stars aligned and the opportunity to bring Sindy onto the Chelsea Design Company team presented itself in the Spring of 2022 after Chelsea finished construction on her new studio. “Sindy is an eternal and cherished addition to the CDco. family,” says Chelsea. “Every day we work hand in hand creating custom pieces for our clients and Sindy continues to amaze me with her creativity and knowledge. I just feel so lucky to have the rarity of an in-house workroom.”
